Consolation by Corinne Michaels6/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() She’s left alone to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart, but she finds the strength to do so in order to take care of her baby, Aarabelle. ![]() Natalie is living the perfect life – she has Aaron, a loving Navy SEAL husband, and a baby on the way, but a knock on the door changes everything and leaves her widowed, pregnant, and devastated. Consolation is the first in a two-part series, and it’s a heart-breaking yet romantic story I highly enjoyed listening to. While Andi Arndt’s narration wasn’t quite as good as Sebastian’s, their two voices definitely worked well for Natalie and Liam’s story. I’d had my eye on Corinne Michaels’ Consolation ever since it came out, and I’m so glad that I listened to the audiobook instead of reading it! I ADORE Sebastian York (I feel like everyone does, and rightfully so), so I was stoked to listen to his narration. Now I have to decide if I truly love him or if he’s just the consolation prize. He was my husband’s best friend-forbidden.īut my husband is dead and I’m alone. Liam wasn’t supposed to be my happily ever after. ![]()

Jane harper the dry review6/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Her debut The Dry was enjoyable, but The Lost Man is in a different league altogether. ![]() With The Lost Man, Jane Harper could very well join these two favourite authors. James are some of my favourite authors within this corner of crime fiction. When reading my favourite mysteries, I regularly forget about the mystery at hand, because I get so immersed in the stories of the individual characters. No, it’s the slow, character driven stories, which appeal the most. However, I am not a big fan of modern crime thrillers with a twist on every other page and an abundance of unreliable narrators. I love crime fiction! Even if I’ve diversified my reading in recent years, I always return to this genre. ![]()

Joseph the bellmaker6/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Brilliant story, however, and Finnbar Galedeep is now one of my favorite characters. ![]() "Unlike the other Redwall books, I found myself reading this one in fits and starts. Philippine history by teodoro agoncillo6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Before that, he spent more than 20 years as a Tagalog writer and poet. ![]() It could be said that he kicked off his career in history quite a bit late, at around 46 years old. He finished his Bachelor’s in Philosophy (1934) and Master’s in History (1939) at the University of the Philippines (UP). He was a relative of Filipino diplomat Felipe Agoncillo, who attempted (but failed) to persuade the US to accept the newly founded republic’s legitimacy Marcela Agoncillo, who was one of the three women who sewed the Philippine flag and first President Emilio Aguinaldo. Beginningsīorn on Novemin Lemery, Batangas, Agoncillo came from a family that was much involved in the 1896 Philippine Revolution and the Philippine-American War. The late historian’s equal emphasis on rigorous scientific inquiry and creative imagination forever changed the way we look at our own history, while securing him a controversial spot in the said field. For National Scientist Teodoro Agoncillo, however, the answer is both. ![]()

Medea play book6/10/2023 ![]() Arguably for the first time in Western drama a woman fully commanded the stage from beginning to end, orchestrating the play’s terrifying actions. Euripides violates its audience’s most cherished gender and moral illusions, while shocking with the unimaginable. When Medea, commonly regarded as Euripides’ masterpiece, was first per-formed at Athens’s Great Dionysia, Euripides was awarded the third (and last) prize, behind Sophocles and Euphorion. Werner Jaeger, Paideia: The Ideals of Greek Culture It is impossible for us to admire the play wholeheartedly yet it was a revolution in its time, and it shows the true fertility of the new art. Jason is stiff with cleverness and magnanimity while Medea philosophizes on the social position of women-the dishonourable necessity which makes a woman surrender herself in marriage to a strange man and pay a rich dowry for the privilege-and declares that bearing children is far more brave and dangerous than fighting in battle. Accordingly, the disputes, the abuse, and the logic used by all its characters are essentially bourgeois. ![]() ![]() ![]() Medea, with its conflict between the boundless egoism of the husband and the boundless passion of the wife, was a completely up-to-date play. ![]() |
